PE tomorrow and thursday

Leave the school at 130 sharp - out the front to the buses - u can get changed before we go - get lunch also - it will cost 5 each - this covers the bus and the activity - please bring warm clothes as it will be cold - no shorts - hat gloves and scarf may be needed!!!

Think thats all u need to know

Thanks

BEO

Beo is not happening on Thursday - class as normal - just too short a time to get things organised

Thanks

Module Change over

Just to let u know - Any module change overs will happen the first day back after Christmas - Many thanks

PE

Details to follow - keep a close eye

Celtic trip

I know that we have not talked about it much but please be thinking about it over xmas - we usually org a trip to a Celtic match in Feb/March time so if u are interested you may get saving - it usually costs about 75 sterling - may vary slightly! U have been warned so get saving if interested. If anyone would like to look at what would be a good game then please just let me know

St Vincent de Paul

Instead of doing a secret santa which is sometimes done in other years it is now a tradition that TYs do a collection for the local st vincent de paul charity group

We will do that on Wednesday of this week during registration - it is up to you to give whatever u can - no pressure but if everyone gives a little bit then this will be a very good deed done for Christmas - if I could get someone to help me to collect this money that would be great - please see me asap to help out - many thanks

Portfolio/scrap book

Hi - I am in the middle of sorting your reports now so I am not gonna get a chance to look at portfolio/scrap books this week

BUT PLEASE BE WARNED THAT ON THE FIRST WEEK BACK AFTER XMAS I WILL BE MEETING EVERYONE INDIVIDUALLY TO LOOK AT YOUR PORTFOLIO AND SCRAP BOOK - PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT U ARE READY AND THAT U HAVE EVERYTHING UP TO DATE - THE SCRAP BOOK DOES NOT HAVE TO BE FINISHED - AS LONG AS THERE IS A START MADE ON IT

THANKS

I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING U AND LOOKING AT YOUR WORK

IT IS VERY OBVIOUS FROM THE REPORTS THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE DOING A SERIOUS AMOUNT OF WORK (A MASSIVE WELL DONE) AND SOME PEOPLE ARE NOT DOING ENOUGH (THIS MUST CHANGE)

THANKS

Buying back strikes

Please see me asap - otherwise this will not be done

3 positive notes - buys back 1 strike

Thanks

I know there are a few people so please see me this week - thanks

Video - please remove

There was a video posted last week of us in carlingford - it included the teachers in it - this is not acceptable - please make sure that this is removed from wherever it was - please make sure that u have permission of people before u post something up on the internet. That is very important. Can somone please just let me know that this has been taken down. Teachers give up their free time to go away on trips. Taking videos of teachers or students without their permission is not on. Please make sure that this does not happen again. thanks.

A massive well done

I would just like to say a massive well done to everyone involved last night - it was a great great night - I am not gonna mention anyone as I would not like to leave anyone out - well done to all involved (so many people did different jobs which made the night possible) - it was a great night - a special mention to all the teachers who drove the night as well - be very proud - my kids loved it!!!!!!

Msg from Miss McDonnell on Craft Fair

Pictures are facebook... Just a quick message to say HOW FANTASTIC most of the event management group was last night in helping clean up and get us and other business out of the school. I especially have to mention, Chloe speer, Rebecca Davis, Samantha Gallagher, Conor Roarty, Bailey, Maia Nyhon, Deirdre mc Daid, Cahir O Connor and I know I will have prob forgot someone but without these kids it truly wouldn't have been a success. U were my lifeline. I just wanted to seng out a msg now as I know I won't see u over the week and I wanted to give u this recognition .

Mobiles /BEO/Rooms/Mini-company/People not going

Please take mobiles with u to Carlingford - there were a few questions about this

The BEO group - a lot of miscommunication between various parties - we will have a chat between all of us when we are away for 5 mins - thanks - see if we can sort a few things out - thanks

Rooms for Carlingford - hopefully sorted - everybody be nice to one another - thats the idea of the few days away - please think about your actions/words and as I said make a massive effort to get on with everyone

Mini-company - canteen looks amazing (well done to TYs)  and I am sure that tomorrow night will be excellent (good luck to all)  - please do your bit for your mini-company - do not leave it to other people - thats not fair!!! TY is about chipping in and doing your bit. Everybody must do the same.

Please note - there are a few people not going to Carlingford because of reaching the qota of strikes (and a few people going because of buying back strikes at the last minute) - I know some of these people may be close friends but the rules have been in place since the start of the year - as I have said all year if you do the work and behave you will gain the rewards - if you do not do the work and do not behave then you will not get the rewards. Rules are in place for a reason. Hopefully all students will learn from this - there are consequences to your actions and behaviour.

Get ready and enjoy Carlingford

Work experience - important

Please confirm your 2nd work placement before this term ends.

If absent from work on 12.12.'14 a suggestion is that you'll go in on the 19th.  All schools (including primary schools) have a half day on the 19th and teachers may be glad of your help on that day.
Remember to say thank you to your employer/staff....shake hands, maybe give a thank you or a Christmas card (spell check).
You want to leave as positive an impression as you did when you began :)

Ensure your 1st placement yellow sheet is filed carefully in your portfolio.
Finally (!), if a school event prevents you from getting your sheet signed next week then I'll sign it for you in PFW class on Jan 08 (2015).

Thank you all for your co-operation to date and Happy Christmas,
M. Corless

Positive notes - please be very careful!!!!

It has been brought to my attention that some students may have been annoying teachers for positive notes (putting pressure on the teachers) - You are not allowed to ask for the positive notes - if you get one - great - hopefully this will be easier on everyone. I obviously am encouraging you to get positive notes - but only when one is warranted and only on the teachers terms. If I hear of any asking/pressure then the positive note will not count.

Thanks

Monday and wednesday arrangements - let your parents/guardians know - thanks

We have to leave at 830 from the school on Monday (Ramelton at 840 and Letterkenny 850) - you can be picked up along the way but you must let us know tomorrow

some mix up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to clarify things

The portfolio must be completed by the end of November - this has been the case since September

However as stated on Monday in assembly I will  only get the opportunity to look at a few of these portfolios before we go to Carlingford and I will get a look at the rest when we come back - I am not lifting the portfolios tomorrow - a number of teachers and students were telling me today that I was doing this - this was never going to be the case as I explained on Monday - some mix up - hope that clears things up now - I will pick a few people at random next week from each class to have a look at your portfolio - I will let u know next week who that is - this will save everyone taking in their portfolio to school - I am trying to be as fair as I can with u

A few people were down at me today - sorry I was rushing out the door with another group - please come back to me tomorrow if u have not got your portfolio sheet signed (I will sign the PE class during PE tomorrow) - so anyone in Tue class with sheet not signed - this needs to be done tomorrow

1 person (who is not in tomorrow  - you'll know who u are) came to me today - as I said I was rushing out the door - sorry  - know u are not in tomorrow - don't worry I will sign sheet at the start of the week

Thanks

PE for tomorrow thur

Be changed into PE gear - u will be inside - and u will be doing a good work out so be prepared and have water with u - wear appropriate gear

Some of you have a responsibiity to do a lot more -

Just a few things then

Out of uniform / no tie will count as a negative note - 3 negative = 1 strike

Portfolio must be completed by the end of November

A bit of a mix up with scrap book - sorry if I didn't mention it in last while (as I said today I did not appreciate the clapping etc - expect a bit more from you - I have no promlem with you making points as long as they are in the right way - thats what these assemblys are for) - so as long as the scrap is started by the January time - by the time we come back after Xmas - I will be looking at a few portfolios before we go to Carlingford - but the majority I will look at before and then after Xmas

Please do your best to get the work done - no issues, no excuses - just get it done - and then we can ALL ENJOY CARLINGFORD

Fundraising in school is banned!!!!!!!

I have been informed from management about the following!!!

There is too much fundraising going on at lunchtimes at the minute for mini-company - the mini-company teachers have informed me that at this stage all the fundraising should be completed and therefore anything else should be done outside of school - u have another weeks grace on this but after that we are going to put a stop to it -

Its just that we are a healthy eating school and also that a lot of parents are ringing in complaining about students always being asked for money

Please try to understand this and take note of this - if u need any further clarification on this then please speak to your mini-company teachers

U are all making a great effort which is great but we have to look after our younger students as well - please try and do some of this in your own time after school - many thanks

please note FOR MINI-COMPANY - STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TAKE MONEY OFF STUDENTS AND  USE IT TO PAY FOR TY TRIPS - THIS IS A DEFINATE 'NO NO'(TO THE BOYS - I HOPE THAT ALL MONEY IS RETURNED). THIS MAY BE DONE AT THE END OF THE YEAR IF MONEY IS AVAILABLE AND YOUR MINI COMPANY TEACHER SAYS THAT IT IS OK TO DO THIS.

MANY THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING ON THIS MATTER
MR DOHERTY

PE Work for Christmas and Summer

One page at least typed (full page of typing) on computer on your experiences in PE in TY to date. List the activities, describe the activities and give some reasons on what you liked and what you disliked (if any). Give some information on what you did and where you went. Give as much information as possible. Name your favourite activity and put in photographs (see important point below). Anything different will get you more marks. Include something that stands out. Make it interesting to read. Make it a personal account (include any funny stories) – what did you get out of it? Did you like it? Include Bundoran/Gartan and Celtic trips. The more you include the better. It is important to note that participation will play an important part in your grade in PE. Please put your name on your work and staple or put in a plastic envelope. Read over your work and remember to do a spell check.

Grading system in TY is as follows:

1 = Excellent               2 = Very Good            3 = Good                     4 = Fair                        5 = Poor

Points:

  • Work not typed = down a grade
  • Poor participation in PE = down a grade (miss 4 classes = down one grade, miss 5 classes = down two grades, miss 6 classes down 3 grades and miss more than 6 classes = Poor (Being excused counts as missing PE). If you miss any of the main activities you may be marked down. This will be marked on your report.
  • Short = down a grade (one page typed – We will make a decision on this!)
  • Effort not good enough in PE = down a grade (not good enough just to have your gear – you must put in the effort as well)
  • Behaviour not good in PE – down a grade
  • No Photographs – down a grade – photos must include yourself taking part in one of the activities

If you forget your gear (I’m sure there will be no-one!) then this counts as a missed class . . . even though you will be taking part in your uniform!

1st Piece of work is from Summer to Christmas and 2nd piece is from Christmas to Summer

The following dates may change – we will let you know if they do.

Date that it has to be handed in at Christmas - Tuesday PE class = Tuesday 18th November and Thursday PE class = Thursday 20th November 2012

Date that it has to be handed in at Summer - Tuesday PE class = Tuesday 28th April and Thursday PE class = Thursday 30th April

Late work will be marked down – no excuses – you have plenty of notice!

If you do not happen to be in for some reason please email to me mrdohertyloretoschool@yahoo.ie making sure that it arrives on time (by 3.45pm on the day it is due) Please note YOU CAN ONLY EMAIL IT IF YOU ARE NOT AT SCHOOL ON THAT DAY. Please make sure that you have the work saved using the correct format (Microsoft Word 2003) if you intend to print it at school. There is a way of doing this using emails – please just ask!

1 day late = Down 1 grade  2 days late = down 2 grades  3 days late = down 3 grades.  After 3 days it will not be marked Note – Weekend counts as 1 day and long weekend counts as 2 days – If the school is open that counts as a day. Only a doctor’s note will excuse you. This must be handed in on the first day back at school. We will then work out a suitable schedule for the work to be handed in.

It is easy to get a good mark in PE. Have your gear, try your best, enjoy the experiences and have a go at everything – no excuses!!! And produce your work when it is due in. We will try to make PE as interesting as possible and we will try to include as many different activities as possible but it is important that we work together on it.

Enjoy the year and best of luck

A massive well done

As I said to you today - well done to all on a very good term

A few wee issues came up of late - to the people involved - get this sorted!!

To the majority - a massive well done - u are a great group - well done - enjoy the hols and see u after mid term

After mid term/remember u can buy back strikes!!!

Just to clarify that after mid term 3 negative notes in diary = 1 strike (too many people are getting negative notes for my liking)

1 negative note will be cancelled out by a positive note

Please also remember that if u get 3 positive notes (and u have no negative notes) - YOU CAB BUY BACK A STRIKE but u must report to me to get this done!!!

There are a lot of people who have got strikes - I would like to see people getting rid of these strikes!!

Well done today to all

Well done on Dragons Den today - very impressed with the presentations and a massive well done to all - some great things on show - well done to all - and also well done to your mini-company teachers

Massive thanks

a massive thanks to the girls who helped me out last class today - appreciate the help - thanks a million - great job done

Got this email this evening - massive well done to all 13 and esp the 6 who got selected!!! Well done to all!

Just a bit about Build a Bank. The two judges were blown away by the standard of the interviews by all 13 candidates. You all were so well presented and prepared. They were amazed by all you have achieved at such an early age. It was very difficult for them to chose only 6. Well done to the 6 successful candidates and to those that didn't get selected well done on an excellent interview and try not to be disappointment. We really hope you can all make a contribution to the bank in some way.

The 6 members of the bank are:

Manager: Ronan Friel
Assistant Manager: Miobha McGinty
Financial Director: Niall Brennan
Sales and Marketing Director: Ewan Kemp
Tellers: Samantha Gallagher and Carly Bryant

From myself
A massive well done to all - judges were raving about u all - so great to hear - be very proud!
A special well done to the 6 selected - hope u enjoy the experience and put loads into it

Msg from Miss Corless - please read and please help Miss Corless out - thanks

Dear TY students:
Over the mid-term break I will be representing our school on a trip to Beijing, CHINA.Part of the week involves visiting 2 top secondary schools there. The trip organiser, Chang, has asked for our students to submit some work as a ‘gift’ to both schools. I know N. Odhran and Oliver don’t do the module in Mandarin Chinese until after Christmas but I didn’t want to leave you out if you’d like to contribute to my trip!!!The organisers have asked for something “inexpensive yet meaningful…that could represent the culture of Ireland”.  SO, I thought one idea could be to produce a bound set of A4 pages where you write/type – in English! – with pictures/photos/colour your response to the theme:

“What’s great about Ireland”

You could state your name, age, where you live in Ireland and then list/describe one or more things that you feel are wonderful about Ireland/ being Irish/ about Donegal/ being from Donegal – whatever:  (instruments/ local bands/dancing/Gaelic sports – your involvement/ great places to visit and why/ drama/ describe our landscape/ things to do here etc.)I’ll need well presented, spell checked A4 pages by this Wednesday to allow the office time to ‘bind’ the set as a booklet of reactions.  I feel the theme gives a modern overview of Ireland from young people.  I’d appreciate one person in the class collecting and getting me the work by Wed. (I do registration in 104 or leave ‘set’ in the staffroom for my attention)I’m sorry it’s short notice but I was only informed on Friday last.

So, I’d love to include you in my preparations and presentation once there,
Thank you in advance,
Miss M. Corless
